Java 5.0 Development
JV5 is an intensive hands-on course. It explores the changes introduced in the 5.0 release of the Java Standard Edition platform. The course focuses on the features that significantly impact enterprise software developments: enumerations, generics, and annotations.
JV5 targets an audience of experienced Java developers. It reviews the language updates found in the latest SDK release from Sun Microsystems before embarking on a guided exploration of the more important language features. The delegates are encouraged to manipulate the new Java syntax and discuss the impact of Java 5.0 on their development approaches.
The course’s objective is to give the audience an appreciation of the fundamental changes in Java 5.0 and their impact on enterprise development platforms and tools. The delegates will be empowered to integrate the most helpful features of the language with their current and future development projects.

• List the updated features of Java 5.0
• Understand and use the more aesthetic Java 5.0 features
• Static imports, co-variant returns, vararg methods, auto (un)boxing,
for:in loops
• Use the updated outputting and string formatting features of Java 5.0
• Explain the impact that the introduction of generics has on the Java
API and compiler
• Design and use generic classes and methods
• Define and implement simple enumerated types
• Define and implement complex enumerated types
• Use standard Java annotations
• Create user-defined annotations and access them at runtime

Pre-Requisites
• Java development experience (Java 1.4 or previous) is strongly
required
• Understanding of EJB development is a benefit but not required
